A Kid’s Mindset For Success!! Teaching Kids to Be Successful: Part 4

July 29th, 2013

During mycareer-path” conversation with my son Jai, he was able to visualize himself, his surroundings and companions in his adult future.  A kid’s mindset for success! The final step was to solidify the pathway that would take him to his version of a successful life: A Plan, Natalie Cook’s fifth P.

A Plan, Natalie Cook’s Fifth P

It’s always a good idea to sit down and plot out short term and long term goals, especially for entrepreneurial kids who are cultivating a kid’s mindset for success.

On an adult level, well-made plans should be a natural component of what you perceive is your life’s purpose, your “Why” in life. (Even kids that are entrepreneurial won’t have solidified their life purpose to this extent, however.)

Sean Rasmussen, our internet marketing mentor, taught me a trick that can be successful with kids, as well:

Write on small piece of paper an intention, but don’t use the future tense. For instance, you might write “I have attracted a healthy, motivated business person to my business this month,” instead of, “I will attract…”  A child might write, “I have kicked two goals at this Saturday’s soccer match.”

Place the written intention under your pillow, in your wallet, or wherever you will view it regularly. The idea is to set a specific and realistic goal. The laws of the universe will then go into effect to bring your goal to fruition… that is, if you see it, believe it, and feel it.

Plan for successPeople who practice this mindset for success technique go on to set bigger and grander intentions, over time.

Having a Defined Goal

My friend, Michael Clouse, says that not having a clearly defined plan is like an archer who aims at a target with a blindfold on. There’s no chance of hitting the bulls eye if you are unable to see it!

Vision Board Builds a Kid’s Mindset for Success

Another technique is visualizing goals using a vision board. Select the experiences and things that you would like to have in your life and make a poster board of these, using images and graphics. Place the vision board in a place that you will view daily. Visualize the items on the vision board and do so as if they were real and already present in your life.

Facing your fears! Walking on broken glass!

Facing your fears! Walking on broken glass!

Positive Affirmations Leads to a Success Mindset in Kids

Speaking positive affirmations aloud two or three times a day is another way of setting your intention and belief. Again, these should be in the present tense.

Natalie Cook likes to declare her intentions and plans before a public audience, making herself accountable to a lot of people for achieving her aims.

So be bold! Change your way of thinking. Get rid of the negatives. Affirm the positives. Make sure that your plans are well-aligned with your life vision. Set grand goals, and follow your plan! This is a kid’s Mindset For Success!

Coming up in our Mindset for Success Series

Next up is the “P” I’ve added to Natalie’s other five. After reading this, can you guess what that might be? Leave your guess in the comments or on Facebook.

The winner will be announced in the next post (we have a small prize for them!!) Every success!

PS We are super excited! We’re heading overseas for an adventure of a lifetime! We will be meeting with and learning from some of the most successful people in the world and catching up with family (another blog post in the making!).

Our final Success P article in the series will have to wait until we get back. That may be three weeks time. Here is a sneak peek at where we are going and what we will be doing…

Entrepreneurial Kids… How to Teach Your Kids to Achieve Success: Part 1

June 29th, 2013

Now here’s someone entrepreneurial kids would love to meet: Natalie Cook. Natalie Cook is a five-times Olympian and winner of the Gold Medal during the Sydney 2000 Olympics games in beach volleyball. Currently, Natalie Cook is a successful businesswoman and owner of the sports franchise, Sandstorm.

She recently gave an awesome talk in Perth, saying the similarities between professional athletes and successful business owners were many, as both have a self-motivating desire to win. Natalie’s message was captivating, humourous, and very useful in cultivating the mindset for success in entrepreneurial kids, as well as in their adult counterparts.

The Five Ps

Natalie’s talk was built around her Five Ps: principles for your kids and in the boardroom, alike.

I will share these with you in a series, over the coming weeks, the last part of which will contain a surprise: a P I’ll be adding, myself.  After reviewing Natalie’s, let’s see if who can guess what my P will be.
Here goes:

Part 1: Purpose

A person who truly reaches for success has a mindset that carries with it a very strong “Why,” or purpose.  Your “Why” must be stronger than your “Why not?” If not, you likely don’t have enough purpose to muster up the will to make your goals happen when you are faced with barriers.

Your “Why” has to be specific and something close to the heart. It needn’t be complicated. A friend of mine is driven to success because she desperately wants her Mum to be happy and not have to work anymore. Another wants to buy a villa in Tuscany so that it solidifies her Italian family roots with a sense of belonging. These “Whys” are far from saying “Why not?” They are set purposes, not poor explanations.

Your “Why” will often come from one of two emotions… pain or pleasure. Usually it will be pain as it is the stronger of the two. For example, consider all those rags to riches stories of many of our success mentors (JK Rowling, Colonel Sanders, Sylvester Stallone, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Susan Boyle, Richard Branson). Their experiences with the emotion of “pain” lead them to having a strong “Why” and their “Why” ultimately brought them success.

Amy, Cathy, Natalie, Tracey, Kym and Trevor.

Amy, Cathy, Natalie, Tracey, Kym and Trevor.

I recently carried out a “Why” exercise with my son, Jai. We’d just returned from a career path meeting for his upcoming senior class. Every pathway the school offered ended in landing a j-o-b (just-over-broke). Their end result was the same, whether the route was through university, technical school, or a straight shot into the average 40-year career hold. There was nothing for an enterprising teen to grab hold of. Worse, because the students were just about ending high school, the pressure was on to make a choice… a limited choice, one based on hastily presented ideas.

The result was confusion and “Why not?” to this and that idea. Jai seemed to be torn between going to Uni with his mates, for it sounded like fun, or leaving school with his cousin and going to make money in the mines. This inconsistency told me that Jai’s “Whys” on both of these career paths were just too vague.

 Purpose Quote

So, we got to work. We discussed why these two ideas sounded interesting to him. We canvassed what it was about “Why not?” that wouldn’t likely carry him through the hardships of either choice.

Then I asked him to ponder a few questions:

  1. How do you want to contribute to this world?

  2. How do you want to grow as a person?

  3. How do you want to be remembered when you pass?

It was a lot for him to think about. We’ll discuss what steps we took next in Part 2: People and Passion.

Always looking for feedback on our entrepreneurial kids articles so be sure to leave a comment. What is your “Why”?

Teaching Enterprising Teens How to Achieve Success (Part 2)

June 4th, 2013

After my son Jai and I discussed the first of Natalie Cook’s Five P’s, Purpose , in choosing a career path (in Part 1 of this series), I asked him to make a timeline of his life. He was to focus on his surroundings, and more importantly, on the people who would be with him.

People

You see, Natalie’s second P is People. Attracting the right people in life is key to building a successful kid entrepreneur. But whether Jai chose to be an enterprising teen or not, it was his mindset for success in whatever path he chose that was most important to me.

Enterprising teens

So, I asked him where he would like to be sitting five years from now and with whom? Ten years from now? Forty? I had him picture what was around him, his associates, and what made these kids so valuable to him right now that their presence remained visible decades into the future.

Natalie Cook discussed the value of surrounding herself with the right people, while training to be an Olympic Gold medalist. Around her were coaches, mindset mentors, professionals, and peers whose encouragement always lifted her up, instead of bearing criticism that tears a person down.

Jai contemplating the people he would like to surround himself with. People with Passion that will assist him with his enterprising teen journey journey.

Jai contemplating the people he would like to surround himself with. People with Passion that will assist him with his enterprising teen  journey.

At the same time, it is important, especially for enterprising teens, to hang out with the sort of people they want to emulate. Qantum physics and studies in neuroscience have discovered that there are mirror neurons in the brain that mirror or copy the brains around them. That is, a person becomes like his/her closest friends. This is besides peer pressure! They should be encouraged to make conscious choices of mates who will add to their mindset for success.

As adults, what I love about the new business that Cathy and I have become involved in, Isagenix, is that it is all about people. Natalie Cook understands this, too, as she is a partner in the same company. In fact, it really doesn’t matter what is your business or your kids’ enterprise for one reason: When being helpful to other people, your success increases. This is because helping people gives enterprising teens and adults an energy that attracts the right people into your lives, and who, in turn, help you.

Passion

People are also attracted to those who have a passion for what they do. Passion is Natalie’s third P. Natalie said in a Sparkmag interview that passion is

“required when times are tough. If you are not passionate about what you do and you don’t love the process and the product… it makes is much easier not to feel as emotionally involved, or eventually shut up shop and walk away.”

Passion quote Enterprising teensNow, Jai rightfully wanted something he could stick with for the long term. Having him visualize himself, his surroundings, and companions way into the future really took him to a place that I could see was his passion, something apart from what others were expecting of him, a desire that would not fade with time. His spirit guided him, instead of the social conditioning of his school, friends, and family.

Want to know more? The next P is inseparable from Passion, and that’s Perseverance.  See you next week (Check out the very funny video of Natalie Cook giving our kids a message!)

If you enjoyed this article, then you may find this one just as interesting “How Do Entrepreneurs Think?”

If you could enlist three people in the world to personally be your friend and mentor you, who would they be? Mine would be Richard Branson, Robert Kiyosaki and Michael Clouse. Make sure you leave us a comment…

Justin Herald… A Most Unusual Millionaire!

April 14th, 2013

.

This story will impress your kids… it certainly impressed ours!

…and there is a little lesson in it for them.

It will demonstrate that it is not necessarily what you learn at school that brings you success, but perhaps having a little attitude is the magic ingredient!

Mike Handcock

Mike Handcock

Last week my friend Gary and I attended an unusual business event in Freo call Entrepreneur X Factor. We really didn’t know what to expect. On arriving it was immediately apparent that there was tremendous energy in the room. People were super friendly and engaging. Successful entrepreneurs, Mike Handcock and Dave Rogers ran the show along with multi millionaire guest speakers.

Why was the event so unusual?

Dave Rogers

Dave Rogers

There were two parts to it. The first sessions were all about Quantum Business (which is definitely not your normal run of the mill business focus) and the after lunch session was an exciting competition with participants getting up in front and publicly spruiking their business idea or concept. The audience judged the event. Budding entrepreneurs, seeking big business to support them, were scored on their one minute presentations. The competition was similar to the TV show “The Lion’s Den”. Investors were in the room looking to partner with the winner and help them grow their idea. It was all very exciting and a little tense during the competition. The winner was a guy called Dr Joe.

Dr Joe

Dr Joe

I’d love to share more about the excitement of the Entrepreneur X Factor competition and I’d love to share with you the insights about Quantum Business, but my purpose of this blog post is to share a story that will impress your kids!

So here goes…

There was this tattooed guy in the room dressed in a checked shirt and jeans. He had a goaty and shaven head, wore a black choker necklace and earrings.

He was a self proclaimed bogan who loved hotted up cars.

This odd looking character was introduced as Justin Herald. I had heard of the name before, but wasn’t able to pin point where I had heard it.

Justin was one of the guest speakers and he came to the front to share his experience and hopefully offer some valued advice to us all. Justin told us his story of how he built a multimillion dollar business from literally nothing!

There were no airs or graces about Justin. He was an everyday bloke who really didn’t care what people thought of him. He spoke his mind, he definitely had charisma and he had real attitude!

Justin Herald with his toys!

Justin Herald with his toys!

His Dad was a church minister and Justin grew up within a church community. It was in a church that his first business evolved.

During one particular church service he was spoken to by an elderly lady who pointed out to Justin that he had an attitude problem and that he should mind his manners.

Justin Herald didnt take well to people “ticking him off” especially about his attitude and especially when he was 25 years old! This telling off ignited an idea!

Justin Herald

Justin Herald

Justin had only $1.25 in the bank and he needed some cash to put his idea into action. So he asked his brother for $50. He then bought some cheap shirts, took them down the printer shop and had them print “Attitude” slogans on them.

He enlisted the support of his brother and mates. Each of them put on one of the freshly printed shirts and they all attended the Sunday service at the church making, sure that they all stood in full view of the opinionated lady.

She was not happy when she saw the blatant prank Justin had pulled. The shirts had served their purpose very well and Justin was delighted!

After the service a number of people took an interest in the lads’ “Attitude” shirts. In fact some people inquired about buying a shirt from Justin. This was unexpected, but Justin thought it would be worth a few dollars, so he used the money he had from selling the first six shirts to his mates and organised for a bunch more to be printed with “Attitude” slogans.

Word got out and his little business began to emerge.

Attitude clothing logoHe decided to try selling his shirts at the Sydney Markets. He’d never done this before and had no idea how it would go. So he asked one of his mates if he’d lend a hand. His mate said “No”. So Justin asked if he’d lend a hand for one hundred bucks, and his mate said “I’d love to help!”

They arrived at the markets and were allocated a table. So he tipped his box of shirts onto the table all jumbled up. The shirts were a novelty and people were interested.

To his complete surprise he sold out in the first two hours.

Justin and I.

Justin and I.

His excitement and business grew from there. He printed more and more shirts and was selling $10 000 worth of shirts every weekend at the markets. Next he tried retail stores. The owners moved him on because they had never heard of “Attitude” branded shirts. They also said that their customers were not asking for “Attitude” shirts.

Justin had an idea. He asked his mates to call all the retail stores in the area to ask if they had “Attitude” shirts in stock. He gave it a few weeks and then paid a visit to these same stores with a sample of his shirts. They were so pleased to see Justin and couldn’t wait to get his shirts up on display saying

“You wouldn’t believe the number of calls we’ve had with people inquiring about Attitude shirts”.

“Oh really?!”

Tod Hutchison, known as the Corporate Mechanic, and I.

Todd Hutchison, known as the Corporate Mechanic.

Justin Herald’s business continued to grow with the introduction of other lines of clothing. He received an invite to be interviewed on The Morning Show. So he rocked up and told his story. He claims that literally within thirty minutes after the interview the phone rang hot with retail stores placing orders for his shirts. Justin said that he never needed to advertise his product as he was regularly being interviewed by TV, business magazines and the newspaper. He always made for a great story as he didn’t look like the regular businessman. Justin has a real sense of humour and loves to rib the people around him. He admits that he has lots of attitude himself, and believes that is why his brand works. Justin is very easy to talk to and he also says that the secret to a successful business is connecting with people.

The Deal.

This chapter in Justin Herald’s story draws to an end when a very large company approached him to do a deal. He was called to a board meeting. Justin rocks up as he does in his jeans and checked shirt to confront the line of suited lawyers and business leaders in this company. Firstly the formalities, then eventually they passed over the official offer for him to look at.

Justin read the dollar number on the page in disbelief. He asked the lawyers if the comma was actually a comma or was it a dot. They said it was a comma. He then said, “Do I get a TV with that?”

They looked at one another and said “Of course!”

So he took the deal which was worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He also took the TV from their wall. They wanted to get him a new one, but he said simply that then he would have to try and rip the box and packaging apart to get it into his recycling bin, and that he didn’t want to muck around with doing that.

So from having only $1.25 in his bank at the age of 25, Justin Herald grew his business in a relatively short time to be sold for hundreds of millions of dollars!

Today Justin Herald has his fingers in different pies. He has just launched “Intimidate Industries” which is his new Sunglass brand which already is a highly sought after brand before it even hits the stores. He also owns numerous other highly successful businesses.

Justin left us with four excellent “Ahahs!”…

•    You need a “switch” to give you the purpose, focus and drive required to start a business. His was the opinionated lady at church. Justin is very grateful for her.
•    He quotes his favourite word “Next!” Justin explains that you will be faced with a multitude of barriers, setbacks and naysayers as you try to move ahead with your business. He just says “next” and moves on. Many people would fall back to their comfort zone and give up, but not Justin.
•    Networking. He says it is the way you relate to your customers. Word of mouth brings you greater business.
•    Lastly for his biggest tip…. “Give it a Crack!”

After the presentation Gary and I had the privilege of chatting to Justin Herald one on one. We found him to be a genuine nice bloke. He told us that his mates today are the same bunch of blokes he hung out with when he was twenty. He never made the grades at schoJustin Herald Nextol and his “attitude” had him in a lot of trouble during those years. However, it was his attitude that has made him what he is today.

Let’s hope that Justin Herald’s success story inspires your kids like it did mine. Your kids don’t have to have all the “credential” that school expects for them to be successful…

(read our last article on Green School and their philosophy on education)

Here is the blurb about Justin from his website…

Justin Herald has fast become one of the rising stars in the fields of business and personal development. At the age of 25 with only $50 to his name, Justin Herald set about changing the course of his life. Justin created Attitude Inc, a clothing brand that became an international licensing success that turned over in excess of $20 million per year.

Justin’s success was so well noted that he was named the “INTERNATIONAL ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR” for 2005.

He recently was also awarded the Future Leaders Award, which recognises him as being one of the 50 most influential leaders of the next generation in Australia.

Michael Clouse… How to Balance Money and Time

March 20th, 2013

.

“Most people are etching out a living and only a handful of people are designing a life”

This is such a powerful statement and one we often don’t take the time to consider that carefully. After many years of etching out a living, we are finally ready to design a life for ourselves and our children. And when we can do it, our children have that example as another way of looking at life and making informed choices about their own pathways in life.

Michael Clouse

Michael Clouse

Michael Clouse is an inspiration!

We were fortunate to hear Michael speak at the annual Isagenix Convention on the Gold Coast recently. Michael gave an awesome talk about Leadership.

Before I share his message, I’ll firstly introduce this amazing and very entertaining man.

Michael Clouse is a professional Network Marketer. He is recognised as one of the top twenty Network Marketing Trainers in the world today. His background spans over 25 years in the industry. He is an Author, having written several terrific books. His book “Future Choice” shows readers why Network Marketing may be their best career move (encourage your teenagers to read this one before they head off to Uni!). Michael came from a disadvantaged home, yet has managed to become super successful.

Early in his career, Michael studied the most successful network marketers around the world. He then modelled himself upon their habits and mindsets.

Michael is “time rich” and “money rich”. He now devotes 300 days a year to himself and his family and for 65 days to work and giving back to society.

Michael explains that we all need time and money, and we need these two things in balance. What most people do is they give up time in order to get money. Throughout their lives they work hard in a job or small business, to bring home the bacon. As a result they are very time poor although they may have increasing money. It is only later in life that they increase their time; however, their income drops.

People will argue that they have little choice. They have families to raise, mortgages to pay and expenses. They need to work! In our world, this may be true….but not so in an Entrepreneur’s world.

How is it that many wealthy people have managed to attain this balance? Well, we need to look at how they’ve created “time freedom?”

Wealthy people can buy time. This can include getting the house cleaned, or paying someone to do the accounts, or getting a wonderful cook in……….all to allow them to spend time with the ones they love and share experiences with the ones they love. You get the picture.

It’s quite amazing how many of the wealthy come from humble and often disadvantaged beginnings. Michael Clouse was one of those people! And he, along with others like him had to start somewhere.

There is a solution to this time-money balance…

Here we are with the legend!

Here we are with the legend!

According to Michael, the solution is Networking Marketing! In fact, many wealthy celebrities agree that Network Marketing is a terrific vehicle for growing a big business on the back of an established Global Company. Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump and Warren Buffett are three mega tycoons who talk about network marketing being a terrific vehicle for wealth creation without much outlay. It’s accessible to everyone.

Michael says if you do it right then most people can grow a big business and work less and less time.

“Success leaves clues!” Study success and you will see the game principles. Here is a selection of success principles that Michael understands and uses in his own life. He studied successful people to learn their habits…

Network Marketing Success Principles

Our Money Mastery Mentoring Program Reviewed

February 15th, 2013

Have you ever had that deep inner desire to want to change the world, or to be a person of significance who has made a real difference to others; yet frustrated, at times, that all your time and energy is channeled into your nine to five job… the job that you need in order to earn the dollars to simply exist and meet the costs of living and raising a family?

Quote 6The World Can Only Change from WithinHave you wondered what you could do if you had the resources of time, knowledge and money to be that difference?

Children grow up full of potential and excited about their new life and what they wish to accomplish with it. Ideally, we as their parents, want to be their inspiration and show by example that they too can achieve whatever they put their minds to.

Do you ever wonder what worldly achievements and contributions your children will end up doing/being?

Paul CounselCath and I have huge dreams! We are aiming for the stars! We aspire to achieve, experience and contribute in a grand way. We plan to lead our own children to ‘Think Big’, to experience, and to make a significant difference to the lives of others whilst here on Earth.

This is our “Why” and it is why we began the journey seeking an understanding and the mindset shifts required to achieve Financial Freedom.

This past year has been, by far, the biggest year for us in terms of shift in a mindset around success. Last year, in March, we embarked on a year long Money Mastery Mentoring Program, lead by Dr Paul Counsel.

Stephen Covey quotePaul certainly opened our eyes to possibility, has given us the tools to make the inner shifts required to achieve financial freedom; and he has opened our subconscious minds, making the adjustments necessary, that have now put us on the path to achieving our goals.

Our year has literally been like a roller-coaster ride. Many ups and downs and bumps along the way… and it has absolutely been full on with the logistics of sorting kids and maintaining momentum whilst running very busy lives. Without our beautiful friends and family supporting us throughout the year, I’m certain we would not have made it this far.

The Money Mastery program is largely about achieving Financial Freedom; however, it has also been a self discovery mentoring program where we’ve revealed so much about our selves; our deep rooted values; our subconscious thinking and conditioning; and our future realities.

Mentoring Program Paul CounselSadly tomorrow we head up to Perth for our final weekend with Paul and our Money Mastery group of friends from 2012. We haven’t decided if we’ll continue as a new program starts in March 2013. There are many things to weigh up, but one thing for sure is our future is opening up wide before us.

Below is a link that will take visitors to our Full Review of our Money Mastery Mentoring Program. We have reviewed our year with Paul Counsel, shared in depth why we chose to take on such a mentoring program and some of the massive distinctions that have changed our lives forever!

We invite you to read about our journey and experiences (and pass it on to interested friends).

Leo Tolstoy quoteWe’re hopeful when you read it, that you gain inspiration and perhaps some real insight into your own lives. We have reflected on some of the reasons why things happen the way they do… and why they don’t!

Sean Rasmussen… Developing Self Esteem!

November 8th, 2012

Our family’s entrepreneurial journey so far has been exhilarating!

The more we learn about successful entrepreneurial people and what makes them different from everyday people has helped us to not only understand our own subconscious beliefs and values, but to  re-condition our own subconscious into developing a mindset and value system that is accepting of economic and personal success.

Our journey of self discovery has allowed us to look deep into our own habits, thoughts and belief systems and that of our children.

Sean, Cherie and us!

However, what has really inspired us, are the people we are becoming friends with along the way. Positive people with energy, motivation, connectedness and drive! These people are our reference group and by simply becoming their friends we are able to absorb their awesome energy!

We flew to Surfer’s Paradise on the Queensland Gold Coast to attend a three day intensive Internet Marketing Boot Camp run by the guru of internet marketing, Sean Rasmussen. Sean’s rags to riches story was an inspiration! From working as an electrician on a mine out from Karratha in Western Australia, carrying a large debt and working very long hours, to becoming a wealthy and very successful (self taught) Internet Marketer!

He would spend twelve hours a day, six days a week, working on the mine site and then teach himself internet marketing during his few waking hours at home (and only sleep for four hours a night!).

He made it his highest value to change his family’s economic situation by being very intent on finding a way to build an online business.

Sean’s focus and persistence (and total support from his family) soon paid off, and within a couple of years he had built a extremely successful business that well and truly replaced his income from his JOB. In fact, Sean’s income rapidly grew and now he has a multi million dollar business!

It seems odd that we travelled so far just for three days, when Sean and his family actually only live less than an hours drive from where we live here in WA. But, of course, being an Internet Marketer, means that Sean has client’s all over Australia and the world. But it’s pretty cool knowing that we have an Internet Marketing Guru who is well recognised world wide, living just down the road!

Our experience over the three day weekend was mind blowing! Sean’s amazing knowledge, enthusiasm and sense of humour kept us captivated throughout the event. We met and became friends with many fantastic people who inspired us with their commitment, passion and variety of topics they were blogging about.

Sean and David at our Boot Camp.

Many had major hurdles to overcome to pursue their passions like Dave who is 21 and has Cerebral Palsy. Or Lynda, who is his supportive Mum, has 4 other chilren at home, and takes the time to bring Dave to Sean’s Bootcamps because she also wants to expose him to the myriad of possibilities out there.

Or Dr Wiliam … (or Dr Bill as he is affectionately known) who is a spritely 80+ yrs young!

Or Catherine, who dreams of working from home so she can still spend time with her gorgeous baby girl.

Or Helen, who came along with her husband Alex and we worked out that Trev taught her in Yr 5 in Geradton!

Or Dale, who’s passionate about Natural Health.

These are just some of the incredible people we met and who we know will make huge successes of their businesses down the track, especially under Sean’s wings. We will expand on the human nature of some of these wonderful people in our next blog and show you the range and depth and variety of people who take up blogging to express their passion.

Also in a later blog, we will share the amazing opportunities that Internet Marketing can bring, especially for our kids who want to utilize this brilliant wealth creation vehicle. But for now, we wanted to reflect on our weekend and the insights we gained from Sean Rasmussen around developing a mindset for success, and in particular how to develop self confidence!

What we like about Sean is his down to earth approach to life. He carries no airs or graces. In fact he and his family enjoy much the same things our family does. They have a hobby farm with a mob of sheep and a crazy dog, their kids play soccer on the weekends in Bunbury and they enjoy the simple everyday aspects of family life as we do.

Sean genuinely wants to help people succeed and he really gives value far beyond what you’d expect with his training and programs. He makes genuine connections with people. Sean explains that with business it is all about finding out people’s problems and then providing the answers.

Now this isn’t the first time that we have seen this pointed out. In fact all the successful people and mentors that we have been fortunate to learn from all say the same thing.

Connect with people and help provide them the answers!

Connecting with people at the Boot Camp!

Sean points out that everybody is an expert. Just find what it is that you are passionate about and become that expert! Find out what people want to know, then build a business around your expertise area.

Self Esteem is another important contributing factor to success. People must take full responsibility for their results in life, not look for fault or blame in others. Sean points out…

Your dreams already do come true. Make your dreams good ones!

Maxwell Maltz (1899-1975) wrote Psycho Cybernetics (1960), a self help classic which revolutionised positive thought. Today’s success teachers (Tony Robins, Demartini, David Wood, Paul Counsel, Sean Rasmussen – just to name a few) understand and refer to. Your self image is the key to human personality and human behaviour.

Change your self-image and you change the person.

Action, Results and Perception are consistent with your self image.

Maltz explains that you will act like the person you perceive yourself to be and your “experience” will be consistent with the way you “see yourself”. We see examples of this everyday. People act the way they perceive themselves, and this is more often than not, drummed into them at a young age.

To put it into context… students fail because they are told that they are failures by parents and teachers. Babies are born “clean”. We interfere with their self image.

Success runs in the family… in the mind!

Maltz points out that disease and success carry through families because it is carried in your mind. If you accept defeat then you are defeated. It is all in how you think and how you behave!

Sean explains that you are better off moving in the wrong direction than not moving at all. At least when you are going in the wrong direction, you can alter course and start going in the right one. It is important to set goals and move forward, otherwise you’ll live in the past. Negative feedback should be seen as a good thing. It helps you correct errors and stay on track. If you can remember that going off track, or off course is not a bad thing, it simply reminds us to re-evaluate what we are doing and self correct. Hopefully we have the self esteem (or at least a great mentor) who can help us find our way back when we stray too far off course.

A healthy self image allows you to locate the answer… to anything!

To Get a Healthy Self Image

  1. Have a goal that is already in existence now and in actual or potential form. (have one that you feel is achievable, but remember to always aim for the moon, because if you fall short, you’ll fall amongst the stars)
  2. Have only an end result in mind..… the “how” will be provided by your Automatic Success Mechanism or ASM (success drawn to you because you believe and trust it to do so- it’s your self image!).
  3. Do not fear mistakes. Negative feedback is a vital part of your ASM. Negative feedback keeps you on course. It is a fact that you get more things wrong in life than right. Just about every super rich successful person has been a failure or broke at some stage.
  4. Dwell on your successes. Your ASM will mentally correct errors until success is achieved. It remembers the successful motives and forgets the failed ones. Think about a basketballer and how he/she is able to achieve the successful shot. It takes pracise and refining or self correcting until the successful shot becomes a pattern in his/her subconscious.
  5. Trust your ASM to do it for you. Focus initially on the end result. Hand it over to your ASM. Do not jam it up with “worry”. Sometimes you have to just “trust” in the universe and know that it will provide you with the solution you are seeking especially if you have a clear intent or know exactly what the end result is that you’re trying to achieve.

Rational Thinking

Sean and his family.

Your subconscious mind has no “will” of its own. It will obey your conscious demands (based around your self image thoughts). So it is through conscious thoughts that you are able to control the ASM. Using rational thinking to challenge your self imposed limits.

Habits

It takes twenty one days for something new to become familiar to you. This is when it becomes a habit and you become comfortable with it. A great exercise to test changing a habit is to try brushing your teeth for twenty one days using your other hand. At first it will feel really funny, then you will feel more comfortable with it.

You can use this concept by copying the habits of those you aspire to achieve the same results as, for twenty one days. Napoleon Hill also refers to the importance of copying and developing the habits of the wealthy in his book Think and Grow Rich.

Tips for Parents of Entrepreneurial children.

Cath and I in Surfer Paradise!

Why not teach your entrepreneurial kids to be disciplined to develop the habits of successful people. Do this by first noticing everyday habits of people around them and then discuss how their habits have contributed to their success by looking at their results. Have your children read biographies of successful people. Build your children’s self image. Encourage them to be leaders, promote public speaking, help them with enterprise and celebrate their successes. Challenge them with exercises to change the way they do things.

There is plenty more to share from Sean Rasmussen ’s Boot Camp, and we look forward to introducing you to just some of the gorgeous people we met and were inspired by. We will also talk about Sean’s formula for success and the three reasons why people are not making money now!

David Wood – The Master Trainer!

October 16th, 2012

David Wood is the Master of all trainers!!

David Wood

We were spellbound by David Wood and energy, inspiration and mastery when he presented his Break Through Training Program to us last weekend. Everything is possible for anyone despite circumstance. All we have to do is step out and go get what we want without allowing fear to pull us back. We must take 100% responsibility for what we have and what we don’t have, without laying blame or excuse. We are the only ones who can make the shift in mindset and create success for ourselves!

During the three day program we gained tremendous insights about ourselves and how we are with people and how we approach life. David emphasises the importance of connecting with people. His tip is very simple, say “hello” and do it as often as you can, with energy!

This testimonial by Allan Kerr was spot on…

“The content is heavy hitting and invaluable, the delivery by David is strong, sometimes confronting and punchy, but mostly fun. Many of us know what we should be doing, but David has a remarkable gift of being able to make every attendee realize their shortcomings and realize what they need to do if they truly want to achieve their goals and dream with this business model, in fact with life in general. So,…. face the fear, and do it anyway! Just have a go …have a who cares, so what attitude, have fun, and get out there and talk to people, make new friends, and you will be rewarded with whatever it is you seek!!”

Break Through Training Perth 2012

One of the things that stood out for us was that “No doesn’t always mean no forever.”  David Wood reminded us in a fun game how to act when you do get a “no” – do the Happy Dance!  And do it like you mean it.

Don’t let yourself go down that path of “I didn’t present well enough, or I didn’t know my stuff well enough, or I’m not qualified enough…. Whenever you hear a no… instead, think of it that you’re only one step closer to your next “yes” and then celebrate the no.

Many of the distinctions and lessons that David taught us were very much in line with what we’ve been learning with our Money Mastery course with mentor Paul Counsel. One of those is in respect to the importance of a reference group.

“I become the sum of the five people I spend the most time with.”

If we want amazing results in our lives we must aspire to associate and become connected with other people who are getting those results. One way to do that is to attend events and form mentor groups with people with similar aspirations. This allows new friendships with energetic, motivated and successful people.

We also recognise that this is just as important for our kids. That is why we encourage them to mix with positive peer groups and get them involved with sporting teams and enterprise.  As David put it…

“Environment is stronger than will power!”

So rather than deal with your will power, just change your environment and reference group.

We learnt also that “success is not convenient”. It requires getting out of routine and comfort. During the training program David pushed all our boundaries to get us to practice being uncomfortable. He did this by having us talk to strangers on the street, miss our coffee breaks, hug each other, hold hands with people we didn’t know, stay on late way past the planned program times, speak publicly, become vulnerable, and dance and dance and dance! We love his favourite saying…

“Get so uncomfortable about being uncomfortable that you get comfortable!”

David Wood the Master trainer and Us!

This is something we definitely need to encourage in schools!

Here is a great little exercise that David says works… don’t blame, justify, complain for ninety days and your life will completely change.

David truly believes that no dreamer is ever too small, no dream is ever too big!  He says that if you don’t know where you’re going, every road will get you there. All we have to do is make a start and follow a road. He also points out that…

“We will miss 100% of the shots we never take!”

So just believe in yourself and have-a-go.

David points out that everyone was once a disaster, including him! David’s life certainly didn’t start out on the right track. His Dad left the family when he was seven and he grew up angry with his mother. He dropped out of school and was in all kinds of trouble as a teenager living on the streets. David spent ten years travelling around the world, broke and living day to day. He worked as a chimney sweeper, window cleaner and barman. He discovered for himself that “who you were can completely change!” This realization led to a different thinking which brought him massive wealth, success and happiness way beyond all his expectations. His success is a direct result of a change in thinking and attitude.

Paul Counsel also supports the view that we are a product of our thinking. What we think and believe will become our reality.

David points out that your results are telling you what’s going on in your life. If you are unhappy and poor, then you need to consider that what you’ve been doing up until now doesn’t work. And if you don’t find a new way and make changes, then your results will only continue to be the same. His advice is to stop taking advice from broke, unhappy people, and seek out successful mentors and friends who can move you along in the right direction.

Lastly a couple of testimonials from friends who attended the break Through Training with us…

An amazing weekend with David in Perth along with an awesome group of people…all willing to feel the fear and do it anyway! Life is not a dress rehearsal…just do it! Stop justifying, blaming and complaining… Grab happiness with both hands…Thankyou so much!
If you ever have the opportunity to spend time with David – take it!
Tracey

Thanks David for an awesome weekend! If someone had told me I could sit through 3 massive days of training and never once feel like I was falling asleep I would have said impossible. The way you share the information and teach is inspirational. So many laughs and take away lessons – none more so than how to connect and change the warmth in a room. Inspired to say “HELLO” more often.  Melissa

David, this weekend in Perth has left a permanent imprint in my heart and mind. I will take 100% responsibility for what I have and what I don’t have! Your seminar was so well presented and motivational that I have already started applying the strategies to every aspect of my life and have been dancing my “no boogie” quite regularly!! Denise

One of our favourite podcasts I’ve listened to recently from David Wood’s “The Kickass Life” series was his interview with Andrea Owen, Hellraiser (as she calls herself).  She talks about becoming your own biggest fan and becoming a legend in your own mind.  We love that.  Get rid of disempowering thoughts.  And if the thoughts won’t go away, learn to manage them. Take the power away from the gremlins inside your head!  Take advantage of the tremendous inspiration David provides for free on “The Kickass Life” series. CLICK HERE to listen in.

David Wood gave excellent teachings about daily life, relationships and business, (especially about the network marketing or referral business). In this day and age, that is how most businesses operate (whether they think they are or not. Referrals are the number one way that businesses keep loyal customers). There are exciting times ahead for Generation Y as they are fantastic at networking and do so in every day life with all forms of multimedia!

In our next blog article we will talk about the tremendous opportunities for everyday people using this awesome wealth creation vehicle to create residual income and financial freedom. So if you’re curious about this opportunity for yourself or for your entrepreneurial kids, then don’t miss this article!

We will also revisit Chayse and Kit and see how they achieved their financial goal and managed to give some of their money to a worthwhile Charity, the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

Plan to Buy Gold and Silver!

October 11th, 2012

“Failing to plan is planning to fail!” Robert Kiyosaki

Most people have a plan on how to make their money, but they do not have a plan on what to do with their money when they make it. Kiyosaki points out that often these are the same people who will have a problem with not having enough money.

He also explains that if you have a good plan before you earn it, then your problem will be having too much money! …Now I like that problem!

Kids need an education on how to plan what to do with their money when they earn it.

Kiyosaki goes on to say,

“Poor people don’t have a plan. All they do is earn more money and spend it on bigger liabilities that take more money from their pockets and then they have to earn even more money. Therefore, despite what they earn, they are always short of money.”

The solution is to plan to spend earned money on Assets (things that appreciate over time) to make passive income. Don’t buy liabilities (things that depreciate and lose money over time) with earned income. Then use some of your passive income from the assets you own to buy the liabilities you want.

Our own kids are all busy planning their enterprises and are successfully making themselves money. They have plans to buy liabilities such as nerf guns, Ipods, computers and so forth, but no plan to buy assets. So I thought it was time to have a conversation with my kids about having a plan to buy assets.

We wrote an article about our conversations with the kids about Assets and Liabilities.  Here is a link to that article.

Once “Assets” as opposed to “Liabilities” was explained to the kids they were then able to make a plan to buy assets. In the above mentioned article I gave several suggestions of Assets that kids could buy. I would like to elaborate further on why Gold and Silver is an excellent asset that our kids could buy with their earned money.

Gold Coin from Lydia

Subscribers to this blog would have seen the promotion of a Gold and Silver Seminar that we hosted here in Bunbury a few weeks back. Our presenter, Andrew Smith, a mining engineer, investor and businessman, has been intimately involved with the world of Gold and Silver mining for many years. He gave many excellent reasons why Gold and Silver is well worth considering as a long term asset investment. I’ll now explain some of those reasons.

Gold and Silver is recognised world wide as money and can be used to buy products and services just as fiat currencies can. The first gold coin was around in 600BC in Lydia, Asia. The difference being, currencies devalue whilst gold and silver hold their value.

Andrew invented the “Meat Pie Indicator” to show why this is!

Aussie Gold 2012 Coin

Let’s see if you can get your head around this explanation of how the Meat Pie Indicator works!!

Back in 1970 you could buy a meat pie for 40c and today the same pie would cost you $4.50. Andrew explains that this indicator shows the Aussie dollar devaluing 350% over a period of 42 years (ie you need 350% more cash to buy the same pie).

What is interesting, is that if you had bought the meat pie with 40c worth of silver back in 1970 when silver was less than $2 an ounce, you would have needed one fifth of an ounce. Yet if you bought the same meat pie today using silver (at $35 an ounce) you would only require about one eighth of an ounce of silver. Silver has increased in value by more than 400% during the same period!
This is a terrific example of the Dollar devaluing due to inflation, whilst Silver (& Gold) gains in value! And no it isn’t just the Aussie Dollar that has devalued! All world currencies have! What’s worse, is that hyperinflation in certain countries have caused their currency to become absolutely worthless. Take Zimbabwe for example. Interestingly though, the people of Zimbabwe are now using gold to buy and sell goods.

If you are interested in understanding more about Hyperinflation and how it could even happen to us down under, then have a look at these videos…
Hyperinflation Nation Part 1

Hyperinflation Nation Part 2

Hyperinflation Nation Part 3

“Inflation is as violent as a mugger, as frightening as an armed robber and as deadly as a hit man” Ronald Reagan 1980

As you can see, having precious metals is a hedge against inflation and devaluing currencies. Although this in its self is a very good reason to own gold and silver, there are also many more reasons.

Reserve Banks around the world are injecting more and more money into their economies. This money is being created out of thin air! Every time this occurs it dilutes the money supply and makes it more expensive to buy goods and services. It creates inflation, which in turn reduces the buying power of the dollar. What also happens is that more money is needed to buy gold and silver!

It is estimated that there is 80,000 tons of gold in the ground (in the World) and we currently mine 2500 tons a year. At the current rate of mining there is less than 30 years of gold left in the ground. Silver is running out even faster with only 20 years of silver mining remaining. I guess you can see that with gold and silver running out and the ever growing world requiring more and more of it, then you would expect their values to increase.

Indian Bridal Jewellery

What’s more, the Indians and Chinese love buying gold and silver, and as they become wealthier, so will their thirst for these metals. There are 2.6 billion Chinese and Indians. Much of the gold is bought as jewellery during the Hindu wedding season and during the Chinese New Year celebrations. It is estimated that there is 18,000 tons of gold jewellery present in India alone today. That is a huge amount considering that 165,000 tons have been mined world wide to date!

The commercial demand for silver in manufacturing products such as mobile phones, solar panels and mirrors means that the silver used with producing such products is not stored, but used up. This demand has been increasing year by year.

Since 2001 the USD gold price has increased by 500%.

Gold from $300/ounce in 2001 to $1750 today

Silver from $4 an ounce in 2001 to $34 today

As you can see fundamentally owning gold and silver for the longer term looks to be very promising. So why not introduce your kids to buying this asset class with some of their earned money, or rather than giving them cash for birthday presents, give them silver!

Perth Mint

It is very easy to do. The Perth Mint buys and sells gold, silver and platinum. All you need to do is walk in and buy it. Gold at $1750/ounce may be out of their league, but silver at $34/ounce is manageable. They can buy coins or bullion. Bullion will be better value for money, as coins are looked upon as collectables and have an additional cost for minting which greatly inflates the cost to buy the silver.

Our kids now have new goals. There goals are broken up into three parts and they have a plan for each. A part for buying liabilities, a part for buying assets and a part for tithing!

This website is worth a look at if you are keen to further your education on Gold and Silver.

Cathy and I and a group of our friends are very excited to be heading up to Perth to learn from another Great Master. His name is David Wood and his event will be awesome!  So I guess our next blog article will be about what we learn from him!

How Do Entrepreneurs Think?

September 19th, 2012

In an earlier article we spoke of charitable entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and John Templeton. They, together with other wealthy people,  have extraordinary stories to tell about their entrepreneurial journeys. Some will tell you that they dropped out of school or were dyslexic and struggled with reading and writing. Others came from homes of poverty and then there were those born into wealthy entrepreneur families. Although they differed in their backgrounds and circumstances, what did prevail is that they all thought in a similar way. It is not circumstance that creates an entrepreneur, it is a mindset!

What we’ve come to understand is that for our family to become economically and personally free we need to throw out our conditioning around money and then reprogram our subconscious minds with a new success money mindset. The wealthy know this and have either been fortunate to have developed such a mindset from their upbringing or they have discovered for themselves (either consciously or unconsciously), a new way of thinking.

It is a fact that around 3% of the population actually do live a life of economic and personal freedom and the rest of us don’t (yes, we are definitely in that bracket). So what do the minority do that is so different to the rest of us?

More to the point… how do entrepreneurs think!

Before we look into it, consider this…

Whether we like it or not, we are being conditioned constantly to think a certain way about money. We are conditioned by our family, schools, advertising, politicians, TV and friends. Most people are tied to their jobs and to debt because the conditioning that they have received favours a money mindset of “lack”, not abundance.

Do any of the following resonate with you? …

“Money doesn’t grow on trees”

“Money is the root of all evil”

“You’ve got to work hard for your money”

“Get a good well paying job and you’ll be set for life”

“Buy a home, it will be your best investment ever”

“We can’t afford it”

“What job do you want to do when you grow up?”

“Go for the cheaper ones”

Only this morning I was listening to a friend talking with his teenage sons. He told them that they needed to get jobs. He explained that he had a job pushing shopping trolleys at their age. He even went down to the local IGA Supermarket and picked up applications for them to apply for jobs.

When I was fifteen I started out with a casual job working at a Target store. My hourly rate was $2.90 an hour!

All of the above are examples of conditioning. It is now known that much of our conditioning has been locked into our subconscious by the time we are four years old.

Our schools are designed to prepare workers for the work force; our banks make money by selling debt to people; our Government collect taxes and require people to be needy, submissive and controlled. They want people to take up jobs that only just pay enough to get by. Retail businesses make money by selling, so they condition us to spend; and our big businesses need workers to build their businesses. You see there is definitely a design to all this madness!

What our family has discovered is that our money mindsets are changing. We are learning that it is OK to accept money and to have money. In fact we deserve money!  It is OK to offer something of value to others for payment. Working hard in a job is not the only pathway for young people entering our big world.

There are other ways….. ways that will allow young people to really follow their passions and dreams and allow them to make a big contribution to whatever they consider to be important! Wouldn’t it be fantastic if all our kids could achieve economic and personal freedom!

People who have achieved financial freedom through being entrepreneurial have a mindset of abundance. Their habits differ and they do think differently.

Rather than me attempting to point out and explain “How Do Entrepreneurs Think” and go about their lives, I’ll instead refer you to, what I believe to be, one of the most influential books of all time in pointing the way to personal and financial achievement.

“Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill was originally published in 1937. The author spent his life studying successful people and recording how they think and act. He himself became very wealthy by following the distinctions in his own book and by modelling himself upon his mentors.

Think and Grow Rich is pre-eminently a “what to do” and “how to do” book. In it you’ll find the magic of self direction, organized planning, auto suggestion, master-mind association, an amazing revealing system of self-analysis, detailed plans for selling your personal services, and a wealth of other understandings from experiences of successful people who have proved their value.

The thirteen steps to riches described in this book offer the shortest dependable philosophy of individual achievement that has literally changed thousands of people’s lives!

This book could be worth a million dollars to you and your kids!

Cathy is currently re-writing Napoleon Hill’s book. The book she is writing will be suitable for kids to read, with simple explanations and modern examples that they can better relate to. It is a work in progress and once finished you’ll be the first to hear about it.

The original Think and Grow Rich book can be downloaded from the internet for free. Click here to download your copy today!

We would love to hear your comments on “How Do Entrepreneurs Think?” Please leave us a comment below. In our next Enterprise for Kids edition we will check back with Amber, Kit and Chayse to see how their enterprising businesses are going.
